In the meantime, the European Union program emerged and we decided as a packaging company to take part. For the implementation of the Program, we collaborated with the company Sensap, where it took over the software. Koskinidis SA, for its part, undertook the integration of RFID in a packaging production unit. BD: Until then, that entered the company? What has changed today with the new system? AK: Before we resorted to the RFID solution, all raw material quantities were recorded manually. In practice, this means that you have to employ people only to type data (quantities,  Also, with the manual recording process, you cannot have directly measurable data, since not all of our production is connected to computers, nor do we have the human resources infrastructure to continuously record the stages of production.

With the use of RFID, the process is simplified and we can immediately have measurements related to a specific piece of information, for example the consumption of paper for a specific task. Our plans are to place labels at pallet level. The entire course of a job will be followed by an RFID. Using the new system, the storekeeper or operator of a machine image manipulation service will now be able to simply scan the pallet as it is inserted for printing, scan the labels on the packages of the inks to be used and, automatically, this information will appears on the computer of the production manager, who will be able, at any time, to know what materials were used, in what quantity and what remains are available in the material warehouse. This information can be scanned either by a simple barcode or by a two-dimensional code. In the first phase, we will monitor the cardboard, ink and varnish.

Later, we'll delve into glues and maybe molds. Specifically for molds, we will be able to know, immediately, how often a mold has been used and therefore judge whether it needs replacement due to wear and tear, before production begins. The ability to collect data in real time is very important. For more reason to resort to RFID tags and not to tags with a simple barcode or QR codes? AK : A positive element of an RFID tag is the fact that each pallet does not need to be scanned individually. For example, if a load of 10 pallets enters the company through a gate that has an identification system, we will be able to know exactly how many pallets are entering the company, without the operator having to scan 10 pallets one by one.  I understand that knowing the quantities consumed is very important to you.
